And among His signs is that He created for you spouses from among yourselves, so that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you love and mercy. Indeed, in that are signs for a people who reflect.” [Surah Ar-Rum: 21]

Marriage holds immense importance in human life. It instills a sense of responsibility in a person and brings comfort, peace, and tranquility to life. Through marriage, men and women are able to safeguard themselves against all forms of sin and moral decay. It is also through the institution of marriage that human civilization endures across generations, providing the only lawful and permissible way to fulfill biological desires. In short, marriage brings abundant goodness and boundless blessings.
Highlighting these numerous virtues of marriage, Allah Almighty states:
“And among His signs is that He created for you spouses from among yourselves, so that you may find tranquility in them; and He placed between you love and mercy. Indeed, in that are signs for a people who reflect.” [Surah Ar-Rum: 21]
Pointing to the connection between marriage and the continuation of the human lineage on Earth, the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
“Marry women who are loving and prolific, for I will boast of your great numbers before the other Prophets on the Day of Resurrection.” [Musnad Ahmad: 12634]
It goes without saying, therefore, that marriage is a significant act of worship. Consequently, whenever someone decides to marry, they ought to acquire a clear and sound understanding of its dos and don'ts.
